It was with a great feeling of emapthy that I enjoyed the news of the 2010 World Cup to be played in South Africa. The cost to the country is immense, and the opportunity of corruption is even bigger.

Why is it that a country with such high unemployment, an AIDS pandemic and cracks in all the public services apprearing that the government thought this money would be better spent on improving South Africa's image abroad, rather than look after the people of SoutH Africa?

You don't have to look far in the current, and past colonial Africa to see shining examples of stupid decisions. Take the cousin across the border from South Africa. Bob the baboon Mugabe. Is this where South Africa is heading?

The hotspot in Africa.

Things in South Africa are just great. The coming World Cup 2010 will bear testament to that. Crime which threatens everyday life in South Africa will surely NOW, at long last, get some exposure in the international media. Shame, because the western ''first world'' has been hiding behind their pitiful attitude of shame and guilt when reporting on any news item in Africa. You can't really report independantly, or say something insulting because after all, it is all the white man's fault.

Rasicm has not left South Africa. It has been replaced with a political correct approach in resolving issues, and neing hush hush about those not worth talking about, or which can cause embarresment. Enough of this doom and gloom, it is after all a world cup, and of course South Africans are going to make this work. Think again.
